Biography

Beatrice Covassi is a Member of the European Parliament. She is the Vice-Chiar of the Committee on Budgetary Control. She sits as a full member in the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and as a substitute member in the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food safety. She is a Member of the EU-UK Parliamentary Partnership Assembly, of the EU-China Delegation and of the Delegation for relations with the Pan-African Parliament. She co-chairs the “Sustainable, long-term investments and competitive European industry” Parliamentary Intergroup.

She joined the EP in December 2022 from London where she was working as Minister Counsellor at the newly established EU Delegation to the UK. Between 2016 and 2019 Beatrice worked as Head of the European Commission Representation to Italy. In this capacity, she acted as the political ambassador of the President and Commission spokesperson in the country. Together with her team in Rome and Milan, she led efforts to communicate Europe and bring it closer to the citizens and local communities.

In her EU diplomatic career, Beatrice was posted to London (2020-22) and Washington DC between 2010 and 2014. At the EU Delegation to the US she was responsible for the newly created transatlantic digital economy portfolio. In Fall 2008 Beatrice won a prestigious EU Fellowship and spent a term as visiting Professor at George Mason University (Arlington, US) where she taught a course on EU New Media Policy.

At the European Commission, Beatrice held various positions including as Deputy Head for the data economy, Deputy Head for the EU Digital Agenda and Head of the digital broadcasting sector.

Prior to joining the European Commission in 2000, Beatrice worked as policy analyst for a major US law firm and as researcher in European law for the University of Hull (UK).
